My hosue is situated close to the train lines, which has never bothered me as I have always had a quiet fondness for trains ever since I used them as an escape from this dreary backwater of a suburb when I was 15. The station is within a few minutes walking distance and is the last on the line, so the trains rumble by slowly and most of the time I barely notice them.
Several weeks ago heavy machinery moved in and began tearing up the vacant block situated directly across the road from me to create a holding lot for 6 trains, and to upgrade the station, platform and tracks. Before it all started the train company gave residents plenty of notice of what was being planned and when it would all begin, and occasionally I get a notice in the mailbox that there are nightworks scheduled and to direct any or all early-morning harassing phone calls to the site manager should I find myself being kept awake by unnecessary levels of noise. At times the noise from the machinery has been a little loud during the day, but I realise they have a job to do and they're not making noise just to piss me off.
But I'm really starting to get pissed off now. For the last few days I've had to put up with my house vibrating umteen times every hour from 6 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon. It's not just little vibrations either - these are vibrations that rumble up from the ground and cause everything to rattle for several seconds at a time. At first it was kind of amusing, but now it's just fucking annoying. If I wanted a vibrating house I would have bought one on a faultline. A few of my walls already have massive cracks caused by the ground drying out and moving thanks to the drought; every time the house rumbles I wonder if it's going to cause more damage.
I'm not really that annoyed because of the potential for damage. I'm annoyed because my house isn't supposed to rattle and it's been going on for days. I don't have a lot of patience as it is, and what little I normally have ran out days ago.
This is doing my head in.
